Temporary Pastor
First United Presbyterian Church of Las Vegas, New Mexico
Full-Time
Summary of Priorities
We are seeking a temporary pastor who will:
– Work with the Session and the congregation to help define new ways to meet the needs of our
community helping define a “new” normal.
– Help the Session and congregation address current challenges (e.g., declining numbers and increasing
age) while adhering to the church’s strong sense of self and commitment to mission, both locally and to
the larger church.
– Explore new ways of building communities to meet the needs of our local and regional neighborhoods
beyond current efforts.
Essential Duties
– This is a temporary full-time position where the pastor would be expected to work with the
Session and other leaders to discern God’s will for FUPC’s future, setting goals and creating plans
over the short- term in preparation for a long-term pastor.
– Encourages engagement in spiritual growth; helps congregants explore a variety of approaches to
discipleship.
– Preaches; designs worship services; serves communion; works with the Worship & Music
Committee, Director of Music, and the accompanist to ensure meaningful worship services.
– Provides pastoral care in cooperation with the Deacons and Elders.
– Serves as the moderator of Session
– Provides administrative oversight of the office, including supervising a part-time office manager,
– Acts as resource to Session committees and the Board of Deacons; represents the congregation at
Presbytery meetings and participates in the work of Presbytery and possibly Synod and General
Assembly.
– Engages in the life of the church, including Sunday fellowship, social events, and occasionally leads
adult/youth education classes.
– Meets with pastors from other denominations and faiths to celebrate points of unity and explore
mutual community ministries, worship services, and support.
– Performs other duties as assigned by the Session.
Note: we are willing to consider a part-time temporary pastor and would revise the job duties, responsibilities, and compensation accordingly.

Compensation
– $58,000 – $65,000 plus benefits (full-time).
Supervision
– The Temporary Pastor is supervised by the Session which serves as the Personnel Committee
Minimum Qualifications
– Graduate of a nationally recognized seminary or divinity school or Commissioned Lay Pastor with up to
two years of experience leading a congregation.
Preferred Qualifications
– Experience as a called pastor or formal training in transitional ministry.
