Worship and Music

We’re blessed here at FUPC with WONDERFUL musicians—singers, pianists, organists and bell players.  There is a long heritage of strong music programs here and we work hard to live up to that heritage.  Currently, three choirs support worship at FUPC—the Melody Ringers, the Rainbow Ringers, and the Chancel Choir.

The Rainbow Ringers has been in existence since 1985 and many of the founding ringers still play and with the bells purchased by the church at that time.  Since those days we’ve added an octave to the three-octave original set of handbells and have added an octave to the original three-octave set of handchimes.  Through the generosity of a number of people, we have added some new bell tables (to accommodate that new octave of bells) and rolling bell cases, which we LOVE!  The Rainbow Ringers play a variety of music from Classical to Gospel to Show themes. Keeping the group challenged is a challenge for the director!  There are usually about 12 players in the Rainbow Ringers.

Each Christmas season, for the past several years, our bell choirs have taken their music into the community and played at Tome on the Range, for shoppers and others who enjoy a respite from the busyness of the holiday season. We've also played at Vida Encantada Nursing Home and welcome the chance to share the joyful sounds of handbells.

The Chancel Choir is a group of about 20 dedicated and talented singers, many of whom have sung in the choir for a number of years.  This choir also does a wide variety of music, selected to augment or underscore the worship season.  The group has recently done some a capella singing, but is fortunate to have a wonderful accompanist in Em Krall.

The FUPC choirs rehearse in the Fellowship Hall on Wednesday evenings from September to May with the Chancel Choir from 6:25 to 7:30 pm and the Rainbow Ringers from 7:30 to 8:30 pm.  The Chancel Choir usually sings for worship services on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month, while the bell choir plays on the 3rd Sundays of the month.

We are always looking for more members in each of the choirs and welcome anyone who wants to participate.
